Aon
Contracting for Rothco - Dublin Ireland
October 2016 - May 2017
Sr. Product/UX/UI Designer
Design Producer
I worked on multiple products for Aon while contracting with Rothco. Initially I worked on the Sophi website with a small team of 3 designers, then I moved onto ACL and ABL products which I fully designed, prototyped, user tested and documented.

Aon were so impressed with the work, they hired and asked me to train in new staff (Head of UX and Lead UX designer). Since I was contracting (and not with Rothco for very long) I did not get a chance to formally train in staff, however I did show them my processes and walked them though using and maintaining all of the files and templates I had created for them.
Problems to solve
  • Design systems to help Aon and it's agents improve efficiency
  • Help Aon to save time
  • Help Aon to save money
  • Make the various Aon products seem like a cohesive suite of products
  • Help to implement the design solutions
Product: Sophi
When I started contracting for Rothco this product had already been mostly designed (about %75), so I had visual styles and UX patterns to conform to. I got to understand the product and the users needs and I began to introduce efficiencies and new patterns where it made sense. I then worked with the client and development team to get agreement and get the product built.

Sophi: A service for comparing insurers based on various data points
Solutions
  • Designed the improved system
  • Created prototypes
  • Tested with Aon agents for validation
What I did on project Sophi
  • Took existing designs and continued to refine on them
  • Created new features and areas of the product
  • Created prototypes
  • User tested the prototypes
  • Documented the features and designs for development
Product: ACL
After Sophi shipped I was asked to look at another existing product called ACL. I done a review and created a presentation pointing out all of the areas I felt it could be optimized. I created some designs and build a quick prototype. I tested it with some Aon users - and the feedback was excellent. I was then asked to redesign the whole product, which I done, and I also created HTML prototypes of the front end for the development team (because they didn't have any front-end devs).

Solutions
  • Designed the improved system
  • Created prototypes
  • Tested with Aon agents for validation
  • Used the new UI kit (that I created)
  • Created front-end examples (HTML/CSS) for development
What I did on project ACL
  • Met with the client and stakeholders to determine the project requirements
  • Designed the full product (based on elements taken from Sophi - to create a shared library UI kit)
  • Done all of the UX design and Visual designs
  • Created prototypes
  • User tested the prototypes
  • Documented the features and designs for development
  • Created assets (icons, code etc.) for the development team
  • Created front-end example pages (HTML/CSS/JS) for the development team
Product: ABL
After working on ACL, I was asked to look at ABL. This was only a concept (no designs, no existing product yet). I talked to the stakeholders (multiple meetings) to determine their goals and the agents/users goals. I then mapped out the current manual system, and I proposed a new online system. This enables agents to create a bond in hours instead of a week.
Current and Proposed system
ABL: I reviewed and diagrammed the current manual system. I then diagrammed a proposed online system that would be much more efficient. This would make agents work lives a lot easier, and it would save Aon a lot of time and money, as well as reduce agent training time. Saving Aon millions per year and making their agents work lives a lot simpler.
I then created a feature list, confirmed it with the client, and I designed multiple options. We tested and agreed on one option and I prototyped and user tested it.
